Wisconsin EMSC was awarded a supplemental Health Resources and Services Administration grant to improve pediatric pre-hospital care. The grant will be used to increase the number of Wisconsin emergency medical services (EMS) agencies with a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC).
A PECC is a designated individual responsible for pediatric emergency care coordination. A 2016 literature review in the Journal of Prehospital Emergency Care concluded that PECCs facilitate optimal care of children in pre-hospital settings. Despite best-practice recommendations, just 21.1 percent of Wisconsin EMS agencies have PECCs.
To achieve their goal of recruiting and training 70 PECCs, Wisconsin EMSC is looking to hire a short-term PECC Program Manager. This contract position is expected to include 30 hours weekly until March 31, 2019.
