Emergency Care
We are helping emergency departments statewide to improve their pediatric readiness. Learn how SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital made small changes, resulting in being prepared to provide young Vinny with the best and safest care.
Wisconsin EMSC became 1 of 19 states to implement the Emergency Department Recognition Program, recognizing emergency departments that are pediatric ready and raising the bar on increasing pediatric care standards.
1,021 Broselow-compatible retractable tapes distributed to 319 EMS agencies, resulting in more weight estimates being obtained for pediatric patients.
Environmental Health
Our first five schools committed to participating in the new Love My Air Wisconsin program, which will provide air quality information to more than 1,500 students in Milwaukee, providing classrooms with real time data to help drive daily activities.
15 local organizations (including the Alliance) collaborated to create preventlead.org, Milwaukee’s new source for free materials to empower the public in preventing lead poisoning.
The Alliance’s environmental health team participated in an “out of this world” opportunity to talk to NASA scientists about air quality’s effect on health.
Food Security
We work with health systems and food systems to increase community food security. Traditionally, health care sectors and food systems worked independently – this is where we come in.
Embedded a FoodShare outreach specialist in a primary care clinic to increase access to Foodshare and nutrition resources.
The Alliance accepted the Innovation Hub Award: Advancing Health Equity, presented at the annual AMCHP Conference. This project aims to build capacity for food systems and health systems to partner.
Injury Prevention and Death Review
Legislature and Child Death Review
The Alliance, Medical College of Wisconsin’s Comprehensive Injury Center, and the Institute for Health and Equity, continue to support legislation related to fatality review teams, and highlighting the value of comprehensive data collection and the potential to influence life-saving prevention measures for children and adults.
The Alliance’s staff supported 45 county-based child death review (CDR) and fetal infant mortality review (FIMR) teams. Contact Karen Nash to learn how a CDR or FIMR team can be implemented in your community, and identified on the map.
The Alliance, Department of Justice and Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office collaborated to conduct five comprehensive death scene investigation trainings to more than 350 professionals across the state – leading to more thorough and accurate death reviews statewide.
Medical Home
The Alliance’s Program Manager, Morgan Conti, was selected as the CDC Act Early Ambassador to Wisconsin.
Tribal Health Center Project
Learn how Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center supported the implementation of family-centered care coordination for all children, including those who have, or are at risk, for special health care needs.
Trained and supported over 250 health professionals throughout 43 counties on developmental screening tools, therefore increasing early identification of developmental delays in Wisconsin children.
Oral Health
The Milwaukee Oral Health Coalition created the Milwaukee County Dental Access Directory as a tool to address dental access challenges that exists in Wisconsin, in efforts to close the dental access gap.
Dental hygienists have been integrated into 13 primary care clinics statewide to provide early dental prevention and intervention during medical appointments.
This past school year, Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile provided nearly $18.5 million of preventive dental care across Wisconsin schools at no-charge to families.
